For much of my life it never felt as though I was highly favored nor blessed. I now know that I most certainly am! I grew up knowing that I was adopted when I was 15 months old. Even though I was adopted into a loving two parent home, I struggled with knowing who I was and abandonment. Although, my parents taught me to love the Lord, be responsible, accountable and to respect and love others, they were not equipped to prepare me for the shift in technology that has changed the way that we all live.
I have always had an unexplainable drive and determination to be better, do more and go further. I am a single mom of college student. Long story short, I completed each of my college degrees while working a full-time and a part-time job, and raising my daughter. I did this because I realized I could not require my daughter to do something I had not done myself. I double majored, Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems in three years at night. Then, went back and obtained my Masters of Science in Software Engineering. I was in college until my daughter was a sophomore in High School. We did homework together…..fun times…. well sometimes (lol).
I didn’t truly choose the Technology field, it chose me or maybe I sort of stumbled into it. Little did I know at the time that my failures would be what truly prepared me to excel in my career. I have over 15 years of experience and counting, in the Technology field with most of it spent in highly government regulated industries. Currently, I work as a Release Manager in the Healthcare industry. IT has its challenges but there is so much opportunity in the IT field for women, and especially for minority women. I am also an Online Adjunct Instructor for a Medical Academy. I have been teaching college for seven years now and love being able to give back. I have a passion for helping non-traditional students because I was a non-traditional student. I am an educator with an adventurous spirit that makes me forever a student. I love to experience new places, meet new people, try new foods and cook. I am quick witted and funny. Working out is part of my life style so I can eat and still wear my 4 inch heels! I’m not the typical looking, nerdy IT introvert or college professor and I plan to keep it that way.
I will always keep the same drive and determination. Now my focus is more about helping others and giving back. If I can do it anyone can. Defy the odds! Let’s get it!!
